How long does it take for Quilter to complete a layout?

Quilter generates PCB layouts within hours, from minutes for simple designs to overnight for complex ones.

Updated this week

Quilter's layout completion time mainly depends on the board's complexity:

  • Simple boards with a few hundred pins usually route in under an hour, sometimes just minutes.

  • Medium-complexity boards with around 2,000 pins or fewer typically finish placement within 1–2 hours, and routing takes another 2–4 hours.

  • Highly complex boards with 5,000 pins or more, such as single-board computers with DDR memory, can take 8–24 hours. In these cases, Quilter generates initial results within a few hours and continues refining them overnight.

Quilter also evaluates multiple layout options with different stack-ups and manufacturing rules at the same time, maximizing manufacturability and cost-effectiveness.

You'll usually get initial layout results quickly, and Quilter presents candidates as they become available. This lets you keep iterating on your design or wait for Quilter to finish the layout job before reviewing the full solution space.
